T. H. Peek, Publisher grew out of the need for teachers in many subjects and levels to have texts that were tailored to meet their students’ needs. Beginning in the 1960s, company founder T. H. “Gus” Peek met with instructors at colleges and community colleges, and saw the materials they had created for their classes. He worked hand-in-hand with these dedicated professionals to shape their materials into clear and accessible texts, which were soon adopted throughout the country.
One of the most interesting aspects of this early teaching environment at the community college level, was its emphasis on individualized, self-paced learning. In particular, T. H. Peek’s English composition series was designed to work in either a traditional classroom setting, or at an individual student’s time and place.
It’s easy to see how much has changed since those times; our lives, including publishing and printing, have been hugely impacted by digital and other new technologies. Still, these books, with their flexible applications of classroom, or distance learning, continue to thrive and contribute to student success.
While T. H. Peek had covered many subject areas over the years, when I acquired the company in 2008, I decided to focus on developing our fine English series. These books provide students with the core of not only mechanics, but also the critical thinking and reasoning skills essential to successful written communication, whether it is academic, workplace, or creative writing.
I invite you to explore our website and look into our offerings, and see what others are saying about our texts. And, please do not hesitate to contact me if I can be of any assistance.
